Reports have it that Ms Kumba Jaiteh, a Nominated National Assembly Member has been sacked from her position by President Adama Barrow.
Ms Jaiteh, a lawyer by training is a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP). Her sacking has caused a lot of disquiet among supporters of the UDP who see it as an attack on them. Kúmbâ’s sacking is said to have been precipitated by comments she made at a rally in Gunjur.
The sacking has also triggered a lot of debate among people who have legal training. Many have argued that the president has no power to sack a sitting National Assembly Member, even a nominated one.
There is another school of thought who say that whoever has authority to hire also has authority to fire. In the coming days, this debate will only increase in intensity.
