Gambia Social security and housing finance corporation’s Managing Director, Edward Graham, has been fired yesterday. His days as SSHFC boss went numbered after Amadou Sanneh, the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs revealed massive financial looting in Mr Graham’s led institution, under a scheme established by ousted dictator Yahya Jammeh. It was discovered that an uncounted for and undocumented cash withdrawals of US$1,000,000 were made from SSHFC on Yahya Jammeh orders. The cash was looted from hard earned worker’s saved pensions fund. Out of a total of nearly D2.1 billions, the sum of D1.71 billion is still to be accounted for. On the social Security website, one can read that “Effectiveness, Efficiency & Loyalty” are the prime principles of Mr. Graham. He will surely need them to get out of the mess Yahya Jammeh put him in. In another developments, the managing director of Gambia Ports Authority has been fired and arrested. Lamin Sanyang is currently detained at the Banjul police headquarters where he is being question by investigators our sources added. Abdoulie Tambedou is name as the new MD of GPA.
Another firing reported on Friday was the managing director of the National water and electricity company limited NAWEC who is said to be replaced by Baba Fatajo.
Other MDs fired include GNPC and GAMTEL. The telecommunications company boss is also under police custody since his dismissal and being investigated for corruption and abuse of office.
