Young people in Babilon Village Kombo North District of West Coast Region recently elected a new Youth and Sports Committee that will steer their affairs.
The election was held at the village square attended by a cross section of the young people in the village and some elderly representatives.
The following are the elected members: Hassim Ceesay Chairman, Bakary Sanneh as the vice chairman Musa Ndow as secretary general; Sutay Sanneh, assistant secretary general; Saikou Jarjue treasurer; Muhammed Sanyang as the Public Relations Officer, whilst Ebrima AK Camara was elected auditor.
Fabakary Sabally, Madi Keita and Nuha Ceesay were elected advisers to the association.
The committee following their election paid a courtesy call on the alkalo of the village, Lamin B. Jarjue at his residence in Babilon Village.
At that marathon meeting with the alkalo, the secretary general of the committee, Musa Ndow informed the alkalo of the aims and objectives of the association as well as their immediate and long term plans. He used the opportunity to formally introduce the new committee to the Alkalo and also informed him of their upcoming grant football tournament slated in the village.
“We are an independent and non-political sports committee looking forward to the cooperation with the Village Development Committee and all the youth of the village to strengthen grassroots sports,” he said.
At that meeting the alkalo of the village, Lamin Jarjue, express gratitude to the new committee for their commitment to forming a new committee. He welcomes them and assures them of his unwavering support. He said initiatives of such would contribute significantly to the development of this fast-development village which is currently a home to more than ten thousand inhabitants. He reminded the new Executive Committee that transparency and accountability are the only keys to the success of the new responsibility they are undertaking.
He also pledged his support to the committee in dispensing their duties in the village.
Meanwhile, young people in the village also gearing up for a major tournament were the first of its kind under the auspices of the new committee in the village.
Already ten teams have been formed within the ten kaabilos to participate in the tournament.
